Cut Level Guide

What do the different levels mean?
ANSI Cut Levels used to range from Level 1 (200 gram load) to Level 5 (3,500 gram load) and you may still see these levels referred to in older literature. Today, the levels have been expanded and refined to range from Cut Level A1 (for light cut hazards - 200 gram load) to Cut Level A9 (for high cut hazards - 6,000 gram load).

Which cut level do I need?

Use the chart below to determine the cut level you need in gloves, sleeves, or clothing:

How do you determine cut levels?

We use a specialized testing machine called a Tomodynamometer (TDM-100) to measure cut levels. The machine applies a straight-edged blade under a specific “load.” The load is the amount of pressure being applied with the blade. We gather data from multiple tests under various loads to determine the force required to cut through the sample. That measure gives us the material’s Cut Level.

What our customers are saying...

Magid consistently has the best overall cost for whatever we buy. We have had other companies quote us, but they can’t touch Magid on price or service. We had our people try it out [Magid ROC work glove] and they liked it. They said the palm coating was better and that it felt good to wear. But the best news of all was that the ROC offered 38% savings over previous glove options – that is a significant savings.
