ROMEOVILLE, IL, May 2020 — As of May 11, 2020, Magid has discontinued our free mask testing service.
The Food and Drug Administration announced in early May that it has withdrawn approval for more than 60 manufacturers in China to export N95-style masks to the United States, citing testing data showing the products did not meet quality standards. Under these new guidelines, only 14 Chinese manufacturers are authorized to export the N95-style masks. In addition, China has increased certification requirements for masks being exported.
As a result of these changes, Magid has decided to discontinue our mask testing program. Our original intent for instituting this free service had been to help rule out clearly inadequate masks that flooded the market in response to the COVID-19 virus. Going forward, we believe these sub-par masks will be prevented from coming into the market by both China and the FDA and the need for our service is no longer critical.
At the same time Magid’s customers are returning to work and our focus must be on their needs. Magid will continue to pursue our mission of helping companies keep their workers safe through quality personal protective equipment, innovative safety solutions, and experts you can trust.
