Safety Q & A

Q: What are the most important considerations in selecting a welding glove?
A: First we must always consider the specific requirements of the application. With application factored in, Magid salespersons are taught to use the following logic in qualifying the need and arriving at proper welding glove recommendations:

• Insulation
the glove must protect the welder's hand from welding heat.

• Dexterity
the glove must allow the worker to work productively and with enough ease of movement as to not compromise safety.

• Longevity
the amount of heat and the length of exposure to it, as well as the physical size and nature of the metal being welded, must be considered when selecting a welding glove.

• Economy
once the first three criteria have been met, the most cost effective and safe combination of glove materials , lining, and patterns is recommended.
