Cut Level Guide

What do the different levels mean?
ANSI Cut Levels used to range from Level 1 (200 gram load) to Level 5 (3,500 gram load) and you may still see these levels referred to in older literature. Today, the levels have been expanded and refined to range from Cut Level A1 (for light cut hazards - 200 gram load) to Cut Level A9 (for high cut hazards - 6,000 gram load).

Which cut level do I need?

Use the chart below to determine the cut level you need in gloves, sleeves, or clothing:

How do you determine cut levels?

We use a specialized testing machine called a Tomodynamometer (TDM-100) to measure cut levels. The machine applies a straight-edged blade under a specific “load.” The load is the amount of pressure being applied with the blade. We gather data from multiple tests under various loads to determine the force required to cut through the sample. That measure gives us the material’s Cut Level.

What our customers are saying...

After switching from natural colored [gloves] to Magid Greyt Shadow grey colored string knit gloves, workers are using the grey glove for two days or more. Saving money has always been a priority, the emphasis is just stronger now than it has been in the past. If you can get one more day out of a glove, it adds up to great savings. With this hand protection solution, and other savings around the plant, Magid has helped us to save over $50,000 this year alone.
