Self-Retracting Lifeline vs. Lanyard

When designing your fall protection setup, you have a choice between a lanyard and a lifeline (vertical or horizontal) for connection purposes. Lanyards are generally the better option in the following situations:

Worker restraint is more important than retrieval
Your anchor points are the same surface where people are walking and working
The workspace is relatively small
The fall clearance is relatively constant throughout the day
You’re working on leading edges where the fall arrest will be at an angle of 90 degrees or more
