Impact Resistant Work Gloves

What Are Impact Resistant Gloves?

Impact gloves are specially designed with a raised material that’s molded on top of the glove to provide impact protection and help prevent impact related injuries such as bumps, bruises to the knuckles, pinched fingers, severe bone fractures, or severed fingers. The material is often made of materials like thermoplastic rubber (TPR) or silicone, the latter of which is used on newer designs for specialty gloves.

How Do Impact Gloves Work?

This protection is designed to absorb and disperse impact force energy away from the bones and tissue in your hand through either:

  • Increasing the distance between the impact and the hand via impact-absorbing material thickness
  • The elasticity of the material smashing/ “giving” a bit to increase how long the impact lasts

What are the Different Levels of Impact Protection?

According to the ANSI/ISEA 138 standard, impact-absorbing materials are measured to determine how much force on average travels through the glove to a person’s hand. The amount of force dictates a rating of Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3, with a higher rating indicating a better level of protection.

  • Level 1: ≤ 9kN (An average of 9 kilonewtons or less of force was allowed through the glove)
  • Level 2: ≤ 6.5kN (An average of 6.5 kilonewtons or less of force was allowed through the glove)
  • Level 3: ≤ 4kN (An average of 4 kilonewtons or less of force was allowed through the glove)

What Applications Benefit from Using Impact Gloves?

Any jobsite where you need to protect your hands from bump, pinch, and crush hazards is the most appropriate environment for impact gloves. As mentioned above, impact resistant gloves are most commonly used in construction and oil & gas industries, but other common jobs and applications where workers use impact resistant gloves include:

  • Demolition
  • Metal fabrication tasks like rolling, bending, or hammering
  • Chemical distribution (i.e., moving large barrels of chemicals in a facility)
  • Moving or assembling heavy materials like metals sheets or large barrels
  • Machine maintenance
  • Removing excess oil from molds
  • General maintenance/other lighter-duty jobs (i.e., pulling electrical wire)
  • Handling heavy chunks of concrete and other abrasive materials during construction, demolition, and teardown operations
  • Handling rebar, especially when bending it, shaping it, or weaving it to pour concrete

T-REX® Impact Gloves from Magid

Magid’s T-REX impact gloves enhance flexibility without reducing impact absorption or deflection and are lighter in weight than similar impact glove styles. Their advanced design gives you reliable impact protection using one of three systems:

  • The M-Force Defense System® deflects and absorbs impacts along the back of your hand and fingertips
  • The M-Flex Defense System® provides back-of-hand protection via ultra-flexible TPR and 130 integrated flex points
